Clinical Experience
Katie’s (she/her) clinical experience encompasses a wide range of therapeutic settings and client populations, allowing her to develop a deep understanding of diverse mental health needs. She completed her pre-doctoral residency at the Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Centre where she received specialized training in gambling disorder, trauma, and psycho-oncology/hospice (i.e., cancer and end-of-life care). Katie’s clinical experience spans diverse settings, from inpatient hospital environments where she supported individuals with treatment-resistant psychosis and other serious mental illnesses, to private practices where she worked extensively with clients facing personality disorders, trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, and addictions.
Clinical Orientation
Tailoring therapy to each client is essential for creating a meaningful, effective therapeutic experience. Every person’s life experiences, values, and goals are unique, and therapy should reflect that individuality. I have received specialized training and supervision in a variety of evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). My work also draws from Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well.
Education & Research
Katie earned her MA in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, where she is also currently completing the final year of her Ph.D.
Her research focuses on men’s mental health, with particular attention to the intersections of masculinity, identity, and anger. By delving into these topics, she aims to expand her therapeutic approach so that it resonates with men’s unique experiences, fostering pathways for emotional resilience, healthier interpersonal relationships, and effective coping strategies.
Personal
In her spare time, Katie enjoys quilting, sailing, birding, and walking her silly little chihuahuas, Stew and Lou.
Registered Clinical Counsellor
Katie is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in good standing with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC #18365).
